The aim of the Consumer Workers' Forum Project is to develop a framework for mental health Consumer Workers in NSW mental health services. The project aims to produce the following outcomes:
1. A fully articulated framework for consumer workers in NSW ratified by the Mental Health Program Council for implementation in NSW including:
a. Clearly defined roles, functions, responsibilities and titles
b. Position descriptions for remunerated roles

This is an exciting step forward for consumer workers in NSW. Over the next 2 years NSW CAG will conduct a 360° consultation and feedback process, giving all consumer workers the opportunity to have a voice in the development of this framework. Currently we are undertaking a literature review that will lead us into the consultation process in February 2010. NSW CAG will commence consultations throughout the Area Health Services in February 2010, to brainstorm and gain input from consumer workers and key staff within Area Health Services around the roles, functions, responsibilities and titles of consumer workers; position descriptions; remuneration; supervision, support and professional development and evaluation of roles.

Our intention is to reach every consumer worker across NSW. People who would like to participate contact Moniquea Spiteri CWF Project Officer at NSW CAG on 02 9332 0200 fax or email mspiteri@nswcag.org.au, fax 02 9332 0299.
To get the process started we would like you to reflect on the following 3 questions and send your responses to Moniquea before January 30th 2010
1. Why do we have a consumer workforce?
2. What is its purpose?
3. How is it different to other work forces?
We look forward to bringing you updates on the progress of the project, and to hearing your thoughts about the consumer workforce in NSW mental health services.
